Frequently asked questions
What is colon hydrotherapy and what happens during a session?
Colon hydrotherapy is a gentle introduction of warm, filtered water into the colon, followed by release, repeated over the session. You stay covered and comfortable, and the process is guided at your pace. Many guests describe feeling lighter and more comfortable afterward, though experiences vary. Learn more on our colon hydrotherapy page or browse all hydrotherapy services.
What is the difference between open and closed system colon hydrotherapy?
In a closed-system session, a practitioner guides the water flow through a small, single-use tube, and waste leaves through a sealed line. In an open-system session, you rest on a specially designed table and manage the release more independently, with more privacy. Both sessions are 60 minutes at Healing Within. Our video "What Is an Open System Colonic?" explains the open-system option in more detail.
Where can I get colon hydrotherapy near St. Paul?
Healing Within is located at 410 Little Canada Rd E in Little Canada, serving St. Paul, Roseville, Maplewood, Shoreview, White Bear Lake and the greater Twin Cities. We have offered colon hydrotherapy since 2002, and sessions take place in a private room. New guests can start with a free 15-minute consultation, and you can schedule either option on our booking page.
Is colon hydrotherapy safe? Who should not get it?
Colon hydrotherapy is not right for everyone, and we review health history before your session. Please check with your doctor first if you have inflammatory bowel disease, have had recent abdominal or colon surgery, are pregnant, or have heart or kidney disease, hemorrhoid flare-ups or other digestive concerns. Tell us about any medications as well. Always check with your physician to see if a service is right for you.
Does colon hydrotherapy hurt?
Most guests describe it as unusual rather than painful. You may feel fullness, mild cramping or pressure as water moves, and that typically eases when it releases. Your practitioner will check in often and adjust the pace and temperature for comfort. Gentle breathing and abdominal massage can help you relax. You are always in control and can pause at any time.
What should I eat before and after a colonic?
Keep things light. Many guests eat a simple meal a couple of hours before their session and avoid heavy, greasy or gas-forming foods that day. Drink water in the day or two beforehand. Afterward, choose easy-to-digest foods such as soups, cooked vegetables and fruit, and keep hydrating. If you follow a special diet for a medical reason, follow your provider's guidance.
What should I wear and bring to a colon hydrotherapy session?
Wear comfortable, loose clothing that is easy to change in and out of. You will be given a gown or cover so you stay modest throughout. Bring a water bottle and a list of any medications. Plan a calm rest of your day if possible. Arrive a few minutes early for your first visit so we can review your intake form together.
How many colonic sessions do people usually book?
There is no one-size-fits-all number. Some guests come once, and others prefer a short series spaced over several weeks. We will talk through your goals, health history and comfort level, and we never pressure anyone into packages. A free 15-minute wellness consultation is a good way to plan. Members get discounts and priority booking through our memberships.
Is a colonic the same as an enema?
Not quite. An enema typically introduces a small amount of liquid into the lower part of the colon in a single fill and release. Colon hydrotherapy uses a gentle, guided flow of warm, filtered water over a longer session with several fills and releases. Both should be approached thoughtfully, and anyone with digestive conditions should talk with a doctor first.
How much does colon hydrotherapy cost in Minnesota?
Please see current pricing for closed-system and open-system sessions on our booking page. Members on our Bronze ($99), Silver ($249) or Gold ($399) monthly plans receive discounts and priority booking; compare them on the memberships page. We accept HSA payments, though eligibility depends on your plan, so check with your administrator first.
