Frequently asked questions

What is a sound bath and what happens during one?

A sound bath is a relaxation experience where you rest comfortably while a practitioner plays instruments such as sound bowls. You do not need to do anything except breathe and listen. The tones rise, layer and fade, and many guests describe drifting into a calm, dreamy state. There is no right way to feel. Learn more about our approach on the sound therapy page.

Where can I get a sound bath near St. Paul?

Healing Within is located at 410 Little Canada Rd E in Little Canada, an easy drive from St. Paul, Roseville, Shoreview, Maplewood, White Bear Lake and the rest of the Twin Cities metro. We offer intro, private and couples sound baths at the center, plus group sound baths for parties and gatherings through our wellness workshops. Reserve your spot on our booking page.

How long does a sound bath last?

Our introductory sound bath is 30 minutes, a gentle first taste if you are new to sound work. A private sound bath runs 60 minutes and allows a deeper, more unhurried experience. Couples and group sound baths are also available. Plan to arrive a few minutes early so you can settle in, silence your phone and get comfortable before the first tone.

What are the benefits of a sound bath?

Sound baths are a relaxation practice. Many people report feeling calmer, more grounded and more rested afterward, and some simply enjoy an hour without screens or to-do lists. Research on singing bowls is still limited, so we present sound baths as a complementary way to unwind, not as a treatment for any health condition. For more ideas on calming your nervous system, visit our Pathways to Wellness blog.

What should I wear and bring to a sound bath?

Choose soft, loose clothing you can lie down in comfortably, and layers in case you cool off as you relax. Socks are a nice touch. You are welcome to bring a favorite small pillow, eye mask or blanket if it helps you feel at ease. Leave perfume at home to keep the room fresh for everyone, and bring a water bottle for afterward.

Can you fall asleep during a sound bath?

Yes, and it happens often. Many guests drift into a light, restful sleep as the sound carries them. That is perfectly fine and nothing to feel self-conscious about. Some people stay alert and notice sensations or images, while others just enjoy the quiet. If you tend to snore, our private 60-minute session gives you a space all your own.

How often should you do a sound bath?

There is no set rule. Some guests enjoy a sound bath once a month as a reset, and others like a weekly or every-other-week rhythm during busy seasons. Notice how you feel in the days after a session and let that guide you. Our 2027 Wednesday seminars include sound healing topics, and you can find dates on our events calendar.

Are sound baths safe during pregnancy or for people with epilepsy or tinnitus?

Sound baths are gentle, but please tell us before your session if you are pregnant, have epilepsy or a seizure history, have tinnitus or sound sensitivity, or wear a hearing device, so we can adjust volume and positioning. If you are living with a serious mental health condition, check with your clinician first, since deep relaxation can sometimes bring up strong emotions. Sound baths are complementary and not a substitute for medical or mental-health care.

What is the difference between a sound bath and meditation?

Meditation usually asks you to guide your attention, for example by focusing on your breath. A sound bath gives your mind something gentle to rest on, so many people find it easier than sitting in silence. You simply lie down and listen. It can be a lovely doorway into meditation for beginners. Our energy healing services are another option if you enjoy quiet, restorative sessions.

How much does a private sound bath cost?

Please see current pricing for introductory, private and couples sound baths on our booking page. If you are planning a party, team event or celebration, ask about group sound baths through our wellness workshops. Members enjoy discounts and priority booking, which you can compare on our memberships page.
