Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between an infrared sauna and a traditional sauna?

A traditional sauna heats the air around you, often to very high temperatures. A far infrared sauna uses infrared light to warm your body more directly, so the air feels milder while you still work up a good sweat. Many guests find it easier to breathe and stay comfortable. Ours is tuned to 4.4–14.4 microns. Visit our far infrared sauna overview to learn more.

Where can I find an infrared sauna near St. Paul?

Healing Within is at 410 Little Canada Rd E in Little Canada, close to St. Paul, Roseville, Maplewood, Shoreview, Vadnais Heights and Arden Hills. Our private far infrared sauna is part of our spa and rejuvenation services, and you can pair it with a cold tub, red light therapy or other services. Choose a time that works for you on our booking page.

How long should you stay in an infrared sauna?

Our sauna is offered as one of our shorter Refresh services. If you are new to infrared heat, start on the shorter side and build up as you learn how your body responds. Listen to your body: if you feel dizzy, lightheaded or unwell, step out, cool down and sip water. Our team can suggest a comfortable starting point when you check in.

How often should you use an infrared sauna?

Many guests enjoy the sauna a few times a week, while others come once a week or less. Consistency matters more than intensity, and rest days are fine. If you want to come often, the Unlimited Contrast & Recovery Membership at $99.95/month includes the sauna, cold plunge, Power Plate, vitamin D tanning bed and VibraSonic. Compare options on our memberships page.

What do you wear in an infrared sauna?

Most guests wear a swimsuit or light, breathable clothing, and some prefer a towel. Bring a water bottle, a hair tie if you have long hair and a change of clothes for afterward. Remove jewelry, since metal can get warm. Skip heavy lotions before your session so your skin can breathe and sweat freely.

Should you drink water before or after an infrared sauna?

Both. Drink a glass of water before your session and rehydrate afterward, since you will sweat. On warmer or more active days, some guests like to add an electrolyte drink. Avoid alcohol before and after sauna use. If you feel thirsty, tired or lightheaded, take a break and drink water. Taking good care of hydration helps you enjoy the warmth comfortably.

Is an infrared sauna safe? Who should avoid it?

Infrared sauna sessions are enjoyed by many people, but heat is not right for everyone. Check with your doctor first if you are pregnant, have heart disease or unstable blood pressure, take medications that affect heat tolerance, have an implanted device, or have a recent injury with swelling. Do not use the sauna after drinking alcohol. If you feel unwell at any point, step out right away and let our staff know.

Do infrared saunas help with muscle soreness and recovery?

Many guests say the gentle warmth helps them relax and eases minor muscle stiffness after workouts or long days at a desk. Heat has long been used for temporary comfort of minor aches. Some guests like to follow the sauna with a cold tub for a full contrast session, which you can learn about on our contrast therapy page. If you have an injury, ask your provider first.

Can I do an infrared sauna and red light therapy on the same day?

Yes, and many guests love the combination. Both are part of our $100 Sample Therapy Package, where you choose any four of Lipo Laser, AVACEN, VibraSonic, Power Plate, Red Light Therapy and Infrared Sauna. It is an easy way to try several services before deciding what you enjoy most. See the details on our daily deals page or read the red light therapy FAQ.

How much does an infrared sauna session cost near me?

Please see current single-session pricing on our booking page. There are several ways to save: the $100 Sample Therapy Package (any four of six services, including the sauna), a $40 Contrast Therapy session with sauna and cold tub, and the $99.95/month Unlimited Contrast & Recovery Membership. We also accept HSA payments; check with your plan about eligibility.
