Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a soft (mild) hyperbaric chamber and a hard medical chamber?

Hospital hyperbaric oxygen therapy uses hard chambers at higher pressures under medical supervision, and the FDA has cleared medical HBOT only for a short list of specific conditions. Our soft chamber is a mild-pressure wellness session, not hospital HBOT. Many guests describe it as a quiet, restful time to unplug. It is not a substitute for medical care, and we do not offer it as a medical procedure. You can learn more on our hyperbaric oxygen therapy page.

Where can I find a hyperbaric chamber near St. Paul?

Healing Within is at 410 Little Canada Rd E in Little Canada, just minutes from St. Paul, Roseville, Shoreview, Maplewood and Vadnais Heights. We are home to the only wheelchair-accessible soft hyperbaric chamber in the Twin Cities. Many guests pair their session with other services on our body alignment menu. Schedule your visit through our booking page or call (651) 490-3347.

Can someone in a wheelchair use a hyperbaric chamber?

Yes. Our soft chamber is wheelchair accessible, and it is the only one of its kind in the Twin Cities (Minneapolis–St. Paul). That means guests who use a wheelchair can enjoy a mild hyperbaric session without the difficult transfers many chambers require. Let us know about your mobility needs when you book so we can prepare the room and plan extra time. A free 15-minute consultation is a great way to talk through your questions first.

How long is a hyperbaric session, and how many sessions do people book?

Each mild hyperbaric session at Healing Within lasts 90 minutes. How often you come is a personal choice. Some guests enjoy an occasional session as part of a relaxing day, while others prefer a regular rhythm. Our team can help you choose a schedule that fits your goals and budget during a free consultation. Members get discounts and priority booking, which can make regular visits easier; see our memberships.

Is hyperbaric oxygen therapy safe? Who should not do it?

Mild hyperbaric sessions are well tolerated by many people, but they are not right for everyone. We screen every guest before a session. Please talk with your doctor first if you have had recent ear or sinus surgery or an ear or sinus infection, are pregnant, have certain lung conditions (such as a history of collapsed lung), or experience claustrophobia. Our staff supervises sessions and will walk you through how the chamber works. Always check with your physician to see if a service is right for you.

What are the side effects of a hyperbaric session, like ear pressure?

The most common sensation is a feeling of fullness in the ears as pressure changes, much like takeoff or landing on an airplane. Swallowing, yawning or gently equalizing usually eases it, and we pressurize gradually so you can adjust. Let our staff know right away if you feel sinus pain or discomfort. Guests with a cold or congestion are often more sensitive to pressure, so you may want to reschedule if you are stuffed up.

What should I wear in a hyperbaric chamber?

Wear soft, comfortable clothing made of natural fibers like cotton, and leave jewelry, electronics and other loose items in your locker or car. Skip heavy lotions, perfumes and hair products before your session. Bring a water bottle for afterward and plan to arrive a few minutes early so you can settle in. If you use a wheelchair, simply let us know when you book your session.

Can I use a hyperbaric chamber if I am claustrophobic?

Claustrophobia is one of the things we ask about during screening, and we would rather talk it through honestly than have you feel uneasy. Some guests with mild nervousness find that a calm explanation, a tour of the chamber and slow breathing make the experience comfortable. Others decide it is not the right fit, and that is okay. A free 15-minute wellness consultation lets you ask questions and see the chamber before you commit.

How much does hyperbaric oxygen therapy cost near St. Paul?

Please see current pricing on our booking page, where you can choose a single session. A hyperbaric session is also part of our Total Detox Day Experience, about six hours of spa services currently offered at $550 (regularly $600) for a limited time. Members receive discounts and priority booking through our membership plans. Ask about current offers on our daily deals page.

Is a mild hyperbaric session covered by insurance or HSA?

Mild hyperbaric sessions at Healing Within are wellness services and are generally paid out of pocket rather than billed to insurance. We do accept HSA payments. Whether a specific service qualifies depends on your plan, so check with your HSA administrator before you book. If you have questions about payment, call us at (651) 490-3347 and our front desk will be glad to help.
