Frequently asked questions

What is the Emotion Code?

The Emotion Code is an energy-based practice developed by Dr. Bradley Nelson. It's built on the idea that emotions from past experiences can linger as energy and that identifying and releasing them may support a greater sense of calm and well-being. Sessions are gentle and conversational, with no physical manipulation. Learn more on our Emotion Code and Body Code page. It is complementary, not a substitute for medical or mental-health care.

What is the difference between the Emotion Code and the Body Code?

The Emotion Code focuses on emotional energy, while the Body Code is a broader framework that also looks at other areas of balance, such as lifestyle and environmental factors, from an energy perspective. Many practitioners blend the two in one session depending on what comes up. Neither is a diagnostic tool. If you'd like to explore related approaches, our energy healing services page shares more options at our center.

What is a heart wall in the Emotion Code?

In Emotion Code language, a heart wall is described as a protective layer of stored emotional energy around the heart, often linked to difficult experiences. Practitioners believe releasing it may help some people feel more open and connected. This is a concept within the practice, not a medical finding, and experiences differ. If you're curious whether heart wall work fits your goals, ask during your session or a free 15-minute consultation on our booking page.

How long is an Emotion Code session near St. Paul?

Emotion Code and Body Code sessions at Healing Within are 30 minutes. That's enough time to check in about how you're feeling, work through the session and close with a few calm breaths. Arrive a few minutes early so you don't feel rushed. Our center in Little Canada is an easy drive from St. Paul, Roseville, Shoreview and Maplewood. Choose a time on our booking page.

What does an Emotion Code session feel like?

Most sessions feel calm and low-key. You'll stay fully clothed and seated or resting comfortably while your practitioner talks with you and works through the process. Some guests describe a sense of lightness, emotional release or sleepiness afterward; others notice little in the moment and more over the following days. All of those responses are normal. Drink some water, go easy on yourself and let your practitioner know what you noticed next time.

How many Emotion Code sessions do you need?

It's personal. Some guests book a single session to see how it feels, while others prefer a short series spaced a week or two apart. There's no set number, and you're never locked in. Your practitioner can share thoughts after your first visit, and a wellness membership may make regular sessions more affordable. Most importantly, keep any medical or counseling care you already have in place.

Can Emotion Code sessions be done remotely?

Many Emotion Code practitioners offer distance sessions, and at Healing Within our energy healing sessions are available both in person and at a distance. Ask our front desk whether a remote Emotion Code or Body Code appointment is available with our current schedule. Remote options can be a nice fit for guests outside the Twin Cities or anyone who prefers to stay home. Call (651) 490-3347 or browse availability on our booking page.

Is the Emotion Code scientifically proven?

No. The Emotion Code has not been shown in scientific studies to diagnose or address any physical or mental health condition, and we don't claim otherwise. Many guests simply value it as a reflective, calming practice that supports emotional well-being. It's complementary, not a substitute for medical or mental-health care. If you're struggling with your mental health, please reach out to a licensed provider, and feel free to use these sessions alongside that care.

Is an Emotion Code practitioner a licensed provider?

No. In Minnesota, Emotion Code practitioners are unlicensed complementary and alternative health care practitioners. They don't diagnose, prescribe or replace your doctor or therapist. As required by Minnesota law, we provide a Client Bill of Rights before your first session, which explains your rights and the practitioner's background. Ask our front desk any questions about your practitioner's training, or meet our team online.

How much does an Emotion Code session cost?

Please see current pricing for Emotion Code and Body Code sessions on our booking page. Members receive discounts and priority booking, so if you plan to come regularly, compare options on our memberships page. We accept HSA payments; whether a service qualifies depends on your plan, so check with your plan administrator. New to the center? Start with our free 15-minute wellness consultation.
